April 5th – Journey Downward
From the top, looking back, looking down, feeling sad
What have I left behind, left forgotten, feeling bad
From the bottom looking up, reaching up, feeling poor
Yearning for what’s up ahead, always desiring more
This feeling like you’re at the top is but a moment’s stop
Take a breath and appreciate everything you’ve got.
My climb in front, another peak, another test for me
I close my eyes, feel success – so much more to see
From my place looking up, always up, always forward
Life is a series of climbs, but never a journey downward.

DAY 4- JOURNEY DOWNWARDS
We walked around Broadmoor Lake that Christmas Eve after dinner
The empty playground sat unused, frozen by negative double digit Celsius
My youngest, 22, got a glint in her eyes…not like Santa’s
Did you know, ‘I am Mama bear’ means ‘Okay I’ll go with you down the slide’?
Why is this slide so high? So steep? Safe for adults. Surely not children
Climbing tiny stairs in boots and a parka should be an Olympic sport
This bear lumbered. She called down, ‘hurry up’. Up defies gravity. This I know
Did I hear a giggle? Damn earmuffs
Two views await at the top- A dark winter sky blankets frosted rooftops
A convoluted plastic tube around the slide…
Journey Downwards
Darkness surrounds me
The motions make me dizzy
Up, down, right, left, up, down, back, forth, upside down
The edge must be near
Heart pounding,
Stomach churning,
Vessel tilting,
Tumbling, bouncing, dropping.
Is this the end?
Will I make it through the other side?
Answers uncertain
I continue to fall.
Sudden stop
Head smashes a plank
Eyes stare upwards – or downwards
Cannot tell
From heavy thrashing
To light bobbing
Bright sun splits the darkness
I survived the falls
