Getting Chances
An attempt to Haiku in Tagalog (Philippine national language)
Translated in English Haiku
Pagkakataon
Sunggaban mo kaagad
Swerte o malas
If there are chances
Make sure to grab right away
Luck you have or ain't

April 28th – Getting Chances
The event was a square dance
A ho-down
A shin-dig
I dressed all in denim
A felt hat
A blond wig
It promised to be country
A beer keg
A roast pig
A chance to hook-up?
Eye contact
Smile big
Then there he was
Pulled up
In a rig
Getting Chance’s attention
His zag
To my zig
A crazy fast song
Hand out
Spin a jig
Laughter to disaster
Spun fast
Lost the wig
Oh, well – he’s is smitten
Finish dance
In big rig!
(ha, ha, ha)

DAY 28- GETTING CHANCES
Up at 8
Out at 9
Pounding pavement
All day long
Try to smile
Chin up high
Not lose hope
Push through doubt
Find a job
Any will do
Ask close friends
Pride can’t show
Pray for chances
Or just one
Stars will shine
Faith lives on

Getting Chances
Frequenting dances,
Wished I was
Getting chances
Instead of sideways glances.
Wanting my love life off pause.
Frequenting dances
Looking for romances,
A worthy cause.
Getting chances
For rejected advances.
Might take the loss.
Frequenting dances
Did little to enhance this,
my quest to rid the blahs.
Getting chances
Makes my opportunities more expansive
Needing no applause,
Frequenting dances;
Getting chances
