April 27 – A Mind of Its Own
My words have a mind of their own
Any writer can relate to this process
They come to our pen from somewhere deep down
So clear and precise we wonder who the boss is…
Am I in control of my mind and my thoughts?
Does this phenomenon happen each time?
Will it produce work I love – or not
Help with plot, character, flow and/or rhyme?
When it’s all on the page and I am giddy with delight
A complete novel, short story, or poem
Will I wake up editing in the middle of the night--
Knowing my words have a mind of their own!

A Mind of Its Own - Touched, by the heat of a thousand suns
Left to broil, and wonder
What of me becomes,
What trial waits on yonder?
For my feet see the path they've trundled,
Leading far back into mists of memory -
Why is it I feel so troubled?
A writer lost in his own story,
Amidst the blackened pen ink
Scratched on dreams-on-white-scroll;
I feel unable to think,
Grasped in a pleasure, heartened full!
In the light of a thousand suns
Those dreams lost to nightmares,
Lost in flames, ink tears drying even as it runs;
Shall I let it burn away my cares?
I would, if I could, but time has told that's not me;
And yet, like…
DAY 27- A MIND OF ITS OWN
Born a tender soul
She’s a pleaser at first glance
But growing strong with silent care
The strength to gift life’s chance
Peers from school spread rumour's
‘Avoid that misplaced geek’
But lifting the outcast’s burden
Proved lighter than pressured cliques
Her mother used to warn her
‘Not to talk to strangers’
But the homeless hand seeking help
Spoke louder than the dangers
Her quiet soul looks inward
Sees ills she can’t condone
Her voice speaks through a heart
With a mind all of its own

A Mind of its Own (Tanka) - my second attempt at a Tanka
How did I get here?
Had a plan for my future
It got away from me
As if I’m not in control
Life has a mind of its own
