Adaptation
Which one do you prefer
The book or the movie
From being a Tourist to a resident
And becoming a full citizen still foreign
Loved the A & W kids' meal to
Shoppers' Seniors Day
From instant coffee to Instagram
Singing Joni Mitchell to Adelle
Sold out concerts to
Social distancing
Online shopping to organic gardening
Cineplex to Netflix
Fighting pandemic
And systemic racism
Which version are you?
Adapting and evolving
This business of adaptation
is a living work in progress

April 25th – Adaptations
(Villanelle)
Is there a reason for the world’s madness?
Consider the theme of the day's news story ---
It appears joy is shadowed by sadness.
Masses march to protest under guise of goodness
Claiming to do it for freedom and glory
Is there a reason for the world’s madness?
When all we require is to be true and honest
To live in our community without any worry
It appears joy is shadowed by sadness.
Caution overshadows our claim to gladness
No one can be happy because we’re all sorry
Is there a reason for the world’s madness?
The virus takes over and adaptation is badness
Hospitals overrun and the details gory
It appears joy is shadowed…
DAY 25- ADAPTATIONS (HAIKU)
The struggle is real.
Like it or not, we’re in this
Together. Adapt.
WRITTEN BY LANA O’NEILL APRIL, 2021
Adaptations
First draft,
Creating worlds;
Honing my craft
Watching it unfurl.
Second draft,
I try again;
The first was scrapped
Made changes to Gwen.
Third draft,
Went a new direction;
Went for more laughs…
It’s near perfection.
Final draft,
The publisher loves;
Not getting the shaft
Angel’s chorus from above.
Adaptations,
A part of life;
No exceptions
When perfection we strive.
