WFSC 2017 Writers Conference 22nd April
Join us for our 8th writers conference! April 22nd 2017. The Writers Foundation of Strathcona County invites you to join us for a full day of workshops, displays, information, and connecting with others who share your passion - the written word. The theme is Canada and sharing our experience of being Canadian in our words. Times and instructors will be confirmed and details added to the information below- subject to change. All participants will be entered into a draw for a $150 gift card or gift basket worth $150. Other draws will be made during each session for presenter books and other conference goodies.

Workshop 1 - 9:00 am - 10:00 am >> 150 Words About Canada - Have fun with word games, prompts, and other writerly exercizes as we warm up to writing. You will be inspired and ready for the day as we enjoy an innovative session of imagination to help boost your creativity!

Workshop 2 - 10:30 am - 12:00 pm >> Building a Canadian Character - Instructor: Mandy Eve-Barnett >> Local author and community advocate for arts & culture brings her imaginative and informative contribution to our conference with her presentation on building characters - Canadian-style! Mandy has published four books and is a freelance writer.

Workshop 3 - 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm >> Travel Canada - Writing Trip Tips - Instructor: Tim Querengesser >> Edmonton-based journalist and head of the Edmonton Wayfinding Project, whose work has appeared in the Globe and Mail, Up Here, the National Post, and many other publications - Tim joins us for the first time with his session on travel writing.

Workshop 4 - 2:30 pm - 3.30 pm >> Canadian Poetics - Instructor: Shirley Serviss. Capture your country through word pictures in a variety of poetic styles. Poems by Canadian writers will be used to inspire you. No previous experience in poetry writing necessary. Shirley is a WFSC conference favorite having presented many times at our events with her fabulous poetic style and creative input. Shirley has published three collections of poetry. She works as the staff literary Artist on the Wards for the Friends of the University Hspital and teaches writing workshops through the City of Edmonton.
- Coffee, tea, water and snacks will be provided.
- Please bring your own lunch; otherwise there is sufficient time to visit the library cafe or mall food court.
- Displays will celebrate writing, events, projects, and members' books.
- Register for a whole day or just one session.

Payment options: cheque or money order via mail; pay online using the links to our catalog. Walk-in registrations also welcome.
NON-MEMBERS- $100.00 If you wish to become a member, buy your membership first and then register as a member!
Single sessions - $25.00 Single session registration available. Please indicate your session on the registration form.
